I'm a songwriter and a builder. I'm a refugee man from Vietnam. I've been 38 years in Footscray. I came from Yugoslavia. My friends are here for coffee, always, every day. Footscray has changed too much. But if I go to a different place it would be boring. All my best friends are here. I've been here for about three years. I had to go somewhere. The community's beautiful and there is a lot of really raw street art that's around, so that's always a benefit to me. It's definitely a cultural melting pot. We love Little Saigon for fruit and vegetables, food, cheap beer. Housing is very affordable compared to a lot of the rest of Melbourne. It's definitely becoming gentrified, because of people like us I guess, which is kind of sad.
I come here 40 years ago. Before, there were many European people in Footscray, but now, not much. Everything a little bit different. It has changed, for the better.
I've been here 16 years. The people, the food, the location, it's very close to the city, I love the area. No one wanted to live here years ago. Everyone thought in the Footscray area there was a lot of pollution and druggies. If you don't have money, you come here, you sit here. And if your friend comes and invites you, you eat or have coffee. I came from Transylvania, Romania. I moved here because it is so convenient, very close. In Footscray there are so many cultures and restaurants. I love Asian culture. I'm the manager of the Footscray Club. The shopping centre was the hub of shopping in the western suburbs.
Footscray has potential but they're spoiling the area by every little bit of ground that they get, they're just putting units everywhere. There are a lot of international students coming to Footscray in recent years.
It's starting to look nicer, the shops are getting fixed up. I love the multiculturalism and diversity in Footscray. I love that you can be yourself.
