How do you guys feel about Newegg's mining packages they have? Are there better options out there? I'm not looking for simplicity, just looking to lower initial investment. Would that combo have that kind of return? Look up the hash rate for 's, multiply by 6, then figure out expected electricity costs I'm unsure of the energy costs yet because I'm still in the process of monitoring how much kwh the system burns in a day-week with one card.
I usually don't like to edit posts after some time has gone by in the event someone is currently responding. But I suppose ten minutes wasn't that long, but thanks for the suggestion and I'll pay better attention to that in the future old habits die hard. I just don't know if that's reasonable to hope for.
You should be able to get a general idea with the information you already have Add W for any complete system and that should put you in the ballpark. Now, these numbers are about as exact as I can get, barring the efficiency of the power supplies and actual running wattage of the gpus which will most likely be less after we undervolt them etc.
Obviously my only other expense would be added cooling costs. Which could be negated by having the rack isolated to a room I never use, or having the rig in the garage although I'm not sure how well a mining rack would do in the garage in the AZ heat.
Yeah you'd need some serious airflow to keep thoes cards cool in high ambient. I think it's more about getting cold or just 'fresh' air to the cards than anything else however. That said, I think a month is going to be tough, even with six! On top of that, I personally would be very reluctant to be putting lots of cash into high end mining hardware right now.
Hardware is very overpriced and I'd always want to at least be able to recoup a large portion of my hardware costs if something goes horribly wrong. If something does go wrong, there is going to be an absolute storm of AMD cards on the used market and prices are going to drop like a stone. But that's up to you. All depends on how you like to gamble. It's funny you mention the market going down the tubes as I was talking to my friend earlier about it. I even mentioned that we would see a whirlwind of AMD cards hitting the resale and retail market with no demand anymore and would cause hardware prices to plummet.
Exactly why I'm going with the s. My own strategy is designed to get me into the four figure a month income level too, only at considerably lower risk by buying cards only as they pay for themselves. It's very slow going, but it's working. Cheaper cards pay for themselves faster. I pretty much have no designs on the s and s right now. I may look at them again when I know I can get one to pay its way in less than two weeks, but right now the pricing on those cards is absurd.
That said, thanks to severe shortages on the s I nearly found myself ordering a X this week. The cheaper cards were out of stock for so long I basically had a X nearly paid for already through mining, and they haven't had quite as hard a time staying in stock. But, I have three dedicated mining rigs to build now, so I can't spend that much on video cards yet if I can help it.
Oak Wolf, at what rate do you purchase your cards? I found myself using nvidia cards, and strange low end setups, but they are surprisingly profitable if you know what you're doing and mine alternate algorithm coins. Check out yacoin, vertcoin, ultracoin and maxcoin out I've decided on the latter, mostly because the Gigabyte was sold out and the Asus wasn't: I paid for my almost entirely with coin I made a year or two back mining LTC on a that I resold here and recouped most of my investment on.
I think I sold it to ivan in fact. Cheap cards also have less value to lose if the market crashes, although demand would be nonexistant as I imagine much faster cards would suddenly be shoved into the price bracket of the low end cards. The problem with building rigs around cheap cards is you are getting less khash per GPU, and you can only put so many GPUs on one rig.
Yeah, I used it for a while and then sold it to a friend who uses it to mine to this day lol. Well, we are looking to pull the trigger on this very soon, I just can't decide which direction to go right now.
However, I'm extremely impressed with Maxwell right now. That's a serious game changer for me if I plan on investing in all new hardware Keep in mind you won't have oc software in linux if you go Nvidia, and that's a big part of the ti's success I'm building some ti based rigs and going with winpe 8. I have windows 7 already, but had hoped to go BAMT or linux.
Just bit the bullet and order all the equipment. The bad part is they won't ship till the end of march. That's a long time to wait When everything does arrive, you may find this link helpful to set those cards up: I've got it hashing at right now. Combined with the Asus X, the main rig is now doing a pretty steady I've never had fantastic results with cooling the Asus DirectCU cards, but I'm hoping to flash the bios and undervolt them anyway.
How hot are we talking? Did you do a bios flash? Mine hasn't been flashed yet. In a positively pressurized Inwin GROne with five mm fans and one mm, that card is currently running at 72 degrees. The X above it is at I can live with this Clocks are engine, memory. The gives me lots of rejects if I push memory any higher than that, so it's not quite as good a clocker as the X is. It's a physically smaller card than the X and the cooler isn't quite as good, but it's not bad.
Gets up to temperature a lot faster than the X. I'm building a rack and using risers on my build. So those in-case temps are ok with me. I'll actually be building two identical rigs, but one will be for a friend of mine. We were going to both invest together on a big rig with 's, but have decided 2 rigs is more economical and less risky. And that way we don't have to worry about divvying up power consumption costs when we can have one rig at each house I'll just remote into his when needed.
