The posts listed on the top right hand side of most pages provide some more superficial but dynamic commentary. Well, more than a year has now elapsed. There is certainly more material collected but we are still far from initial objectives. Time flies but, in a sense, nothing changes. We now have more pages and have maintained a regular blog. Life continues but comprehensive documentation is difficult.
We continue, however, and with patience more will be completed in the near future. Hamstead Farms represents the rural and agricultural endeavors of one branch of the Hamilton family; two brothers, two farms, two different life styles.
As old age is approaching for one generation and while the next disperses far and wide, there has arisen the need to reassess both mission and purpose and to reconcile with the future.
The object of this website is to document, in a structured manner, past and present activities that are both significant and pertinent to understanding the cross roads at which we stand. There are two perspectives at this crossroads. On one hand there is the traditional beef farmer facing the difficult situation of low prices, exorbitant capital costs coupled with labour unavailability.
On the other hand there is the hobby farmer faced with the more esoteric challenge of what to do with the land on which his parents are buried. It is obvious that this is a matter of philosophical proportions and details are somewhat secondary. None-the-less, rather than prematurely speculate, it is anticipated that a methodology of structuring and priorizing the mundane will ultimately lead to more tangible conclusions. Although it will definitely change as this site is developed, a interim work-breakdown-structure is needed as a guideline.
