There have been attempts to mislead people into believing that the bitcoin core and segwit2x project, the implementation of the Segwit2x proposal, is a necessary update to existing software—it is not.
Instead, it is a contentious deviation from the existing network bitcoin core and segwit2x, and its users will soon find themselves disagreeing bitcoin core and segwit2x the rest of the network about the validity of blocks and transactions.
