We thought we'd take a look at some of the popular traders on there to see how often their predictions are right. Under your settings you have a lot of control over notifications. If you're after up-to-date predictions, you can enable email updates for 'Ideas' and 'Idea Updates' of people you follow. Although this seems very useful, we found that even following just 3 people was fairly overwhelming!

For the past few days we've been getting 7 or 8 emails every day, each requiring a few minutes to stay up-to-date with. So unless you're willing to spent a few hours on this each day, perhaps just follow 1 or 2 people with full notifications enabled and each month consider if this author is providing useful data or just disable email updates for 'Idea Updates'.

We definitely plan to unfollow one of these people now that we've gathered enough data for this guide! Authors on TradingView post charts that aren't necessarily predictions. We're basing the below claims on only more specific predictions - where statements have been made that a trend line will likely be followed, or a price goal has been posted. Looking at specific trades we can see why. Taking a look at an idea by DLavrov on September 27thhe posted a prediction that the price would go up.

Now we're not trying to call out these specific traders, we're just trying to make a point here: Cryptocurrency prices are heavily affected by news, the recent China ICO ban being a good example. The day before this ban many traders were suggesting the price was about to go up, with various indicators to back it up. But this didn't happen due to this news.

Seeing a large drop you might think some bad news has been posted, prompting you to sell. In hindsight it could have just been a large stop loss order being triggered. We think that the stats above were useful to gather, but that other factors need to be taken into account.

So we found them useful as a basis for research rather than trade advice. When looking at news for example we could then anticipate if the market had reacted to the news yet and take advantage of it. But this required very quick action to take advantage of before other traders also acted on similar predictions - and even then sometimes there was no noticeable effect on price. Looking through all these stats was pretty daunting, so we're going to take a second pass tomorrow to ensure all claims are accurate.
