Mere days after announcing a port for mobile devices, Studio Wildcard has only gone and officially announced a Nintendo Switch version of Ark: Revealed at a presentation at GDC today, the open-world survival sim will be ported to Switch with help from Abstraction Games a studio that specialises in console ports.
Ahhh, we love the smell of platform parity in the evening. Check out a clip of the game running on Switch, in real-time, at GDC earlier today. It's due to hit the handheld sometime this autumn, so start sharpening your spears and brushing up on your dinosaur hunting tactics because Ark really is coming.
Let us know what you make of the announcement below Bearded malcontent Dom has been writing about games for so long he's practically forgotten what reality looks like. Over his career he's written for just about every site and mag out there. I've never played this game on any platform. Looks really promising though. I'll wait for a review. They said it's literally just the core game and subsystems ported over thus far, without any optimizations or anything.
I guess their publisher requested the game in a playable state- just a version of the game where you could literally move around in, and that's it. But they said even though that's all that was asked of them for this conference, they already have it hitting 30fps in most places. I'm glad to see this is hitting the switch. This is good news and very surprising to hear. I'm sure the 32 gig cartridge will be fully used unless they cut out any content to fit on a smaller cartridge, being that the 32gig cartridges are so expensive for developers.
Eh, it's an ok game, from what I've seen of it. I'd like to be proven wrong of this ever goes on sale. I forget what it's from, exactly. Good to know another big-league game is heading to the Switch platform-parity and all. Hopefully that they got their game together before it's Switch-bound hearing the not so good news from pc and the other consoles. Otherwise, this game will be extinct! I like a slower paced game now and then. This looks the part.
Looking at the gameplay, it looks like it's already running well. After all is said and done, it should run pretty good. Another current gen port coming over. I love me some dinosaurs, so this is great news. Although, once a game has been ported to mobile, its almost guaranteed a Switch port is coming. It only makes business sense.
It's open the door get on the floor. Never heard of Ark but it looks good so far. We need more announcements like this! NintyNate The other versions do anyway. Offline is supposed to be the best way to play actually as it can take a lot of grinding to get gear and build your fort only to have it destroyed by other players online. Hope its a good port because the PS4 version was a buggy mess when that was released. The only game I have ever asked for money back on.
I've heard a lot of good things about this game, but haven't tried it myself. The concept behind it with the dinosaurs and such definitely has be intrigued so I am for sure keeping an eye on this. MH4 I'd be willing to bet the only reason we don't have Fortnite confirmed yet is because its free, and that doesn't fit Nintendo's current infrastructure until we get the paid online service and more robost online features.
Also, isn't it invite only and only IOS? I might be out of date, I don't actively follow these games. I should have said, when I said "mobile" I meant available on Android markets.
The IOS market is slightly different with requirements, exclusivity etc, and a lot less specs to hit. An Android port available for a huge range of devices and specs is more likely to be ported. And yes, as of now it's invite only and iOS exclusive. You make some good points! I expect Fortnite to eventually come to Switch, and a September release alongside the Switch Online service would be a cash cow for everyone involved. Arc was and is running like crap on pc and requires far more power for far lesser graphics compared to other games.
And that mess want's to be on the switch? That framerate is rufff, but let's hope for the best? If Wildcard can get the Switch version running a solid 30fps at p without toooo many compromises, it could end up being the best version. At present it looks like there is going to be a hefty download required for the game. OorWullie Haha I see what you did there. TBH the Battle Royale is not really my type of game personally, but of course I realise that either or both those games coming to Switch would be a fantastic thing.
Both very popular and could bring fans to the system being able to play the "full fat" versions portably on a powerful device. If combined with proper online services such as voicechat and streaming via Twitch those 2 games could be insanely huge. Nice, now just don't add a Switch tax and this will be a textbook example of a Switch port done right!
I'm extremely hyped for this. A friend let me try it on her PS4 and it was really fun! As long as it runs well I'll buy it day one! DanteSolablood thanks for the update. I figure some content will be minimized to compensate for framerate. Should be interesting to see how it comes together. If this is truly the game without optimization as they claim , i can assire you with a bit of efffort this game will be the definitive version. And among generally localised stuff, I recall Onigiri was planned for a release, albeit there's no date yet and it may well be past September as well.
It's not a new engine, but it's still a very good one. I've considered getting this on PC, but now I'll just wait till it comes out on Switch. Looks like an awesome game! Do you know if those games you mention support voice chat, streaming and other features that would be considered necessary for the 2 games mentioned? As I said before, not really my type of game at all, but they zeem to be the current "big thing" by quite some margin, at least on PC and Twitch streams.
OorWullie yeah hence I don't really do online games lol NintendoKnight NintendoKnight where you get that?? Not interested in the game. I hate those first person-survival concepts. And overall the game animations and techniques feel very old. But well, for those interested it is good news and it might be good for Switch to have this kind of games.
I remember when I updated my outdated pc mainly to play this game when it first came out in early access.
This is exciting and I am impressed. Tap here to load 61 comments. Hold on there, you need to login to post a comment Staff Profile Twitter Reply. I'll wait for a review 3. Ive heard great things about this one. Kinda reminds me of Far Cry with dinosaurs. It was yes was indeed https: A definite purchase for me.
